It is not known where and when indicator Momentum exactly originated. Momentum is technical analysis indicator which seeks to predict future market trends, that is designed to identify the speed, respectively strength of a price movement. It should be noted that the Momentum indicator is a leading indicator, that it gives signals before price action confirms them. High readings, negative or positive, occur when a trend is at its strongest. Lower readings are found at the start and end of trends. The momentum indicator is unbounded, there is no maximum or minimum value, that it can technically go as high or as low as it wants.
Mathematical Formula:
Momentum = Close(i)/Close(i-N)*100
Close(i) — is the closing price of the current bar
Close(i-N) — is the closing bar price N periods ago
