Moving average - MA simply measure the average price or exchange rate of a currency pair over a specific time frame. An indicator frequently used in technical analysis showing the average value of a security's price over a set period. Moving average - MA is a type of finite impulse response filter used to analyze a set of datum points by creating a series of averages of different subsets of the full data set. Moving averages - MA are generally used to measure momentum and define areas of possible support and resistance. They do not predict price direction, but rather define the current direction with a lag, are used to emphasize the direction of a trend and to smooth out price and volume fluctuations, respectively, help us to first define the trend and to recognize changes in the trend.
Moving Average - MA is used with time series data to smooth out short-term fluctuations and highlight longer-term trends. Moving Averages - MA also form the building blocks for many other technical indicators, such are MACD, OsMA, Bollinger Bands and so on. The two most popular types of moving averages are the Exponential Moving Average - EMA and the Simple Moving Average - SMA.
